Going to Portugal was a pretty spontaneous decision since it's not that close to Madrid and I wasn't sure about my exam dates. BUT fortunately, we saw that Flix bus (may God bless low fares) had a promotion on their tickets Madrid- Lisbon. I was so amazingly happy! Everyone is asking me how do I travel, how do I find money and time. Well, planning is the key. I always stay updated for discounts and promotions.

Our trip started with us almost missing the bus. It was leaving at 7:30 am, we were there at 7:32 and the driver said: ‘You are lucky more people are late.' So basically without any breath left, we got up on the bus and the adventure began. It was a pretty nice bus, there was Wi-fi, contacts and enough space for everyone. For an 8 h trip, it finished really fast. (Not for my friend Vanessa, tho, sorry, baby.) Once we arrived at the bus station in Lisbon, we started searching for the metro and which line to go with. I'm sorry to say that in the end, we took an Uber because we were really tired and come on, it is way more comfortable. (It was also really cheap there.)

We stayed in an apartment from Airbnb with a really good central location but when we got there, we saw there were no windows in the room. So the next few days we were sleeping in a hole like bears.

What to visit

Praça do Comércio

It’s the biggest square, also you can catch a typical car there and have a private city tour. On Saturday there is a market and the people are selling handmade stuff and food as well.

Bairro Alto- A must see!

This neighborhood is uphill and there is a one famous street with stopped trolleys where you can take a photo with them, it's like an open museum. It's called ‘Ascensor da Bica’.

Alfama- Tiles neighborhood

I think that this is the most colorful neighborhood I've ever seen. There were tiles everywhere, blooming flowers, walls in different colors and of course, amazing views. If you want marvelous insta photos, go there!

The Pink street

During the day it’s just a normal pink street, casually existing but at night it’s the most famous street for nightlife. You are welcome.

Belém Tower

The entrance is 6 euro normal ticket and 3 euro for students. It is worth it only for the views. I would rather go to Sintra, it’s a small town close to Lisbon and it has amazing palaces and nature.

Time out Market

It’s a cute market (really similar to the Spanish ones) where you can find everything you wanna eat. It wasn’t our favourite tho, because the prices were too high for us, poor Erasmus students.

Where to eat

NICOLAU! Best brunch ever, amazing atmosphere, absolutely loved it! But you have to prepare for at least a half an hour queue, it is really popular.

What to try, typical food

Bacalhau and pastel de nata, I didn’t like anything else from their typical food.

P.S. Be prepared that there are a lot of drug dealers and everyone is trying to sell you something, we were really scared at the beginning.

In conclusion,

I expected more from Portugal, maybe we didn’t see enough great places but I wasn’t as fascinated as I was expecting to be. Next time I’ll visit Sintra and Cascais, I hope they won’t disappoint me.
